Uttarakhand Judiciary Preliminary (UKPSC CJ) Exam Pattern:

  • The Preliminary Exam is a screening objective-type test (OMR‑based), consisting of 200 MCQs to be answered within 3 hours

  • It is divided into:

    • Part I: General Knowledge (50 questions, 50 marks)

    • Part II: Law subjects (150 questions, 150 marks)

    • Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer

  • Prelims marks are not counted in final merit, but you must clear cut-offs to progress to Mains

Part I – General Knowledge

  • Focus areas:

    • International Law & treaties

    • Recent legislation (both central and Uttarakhand state)

    • Constitutional provisions and amendments

    • Judicial developments, landmark Supreme Court/High Court judgments

    • Uttarakhand-specific facts: formation, geography, governance

    • Neutrality, law and development topics

Part II – Law Subjects

Covers the following topics primarily:

  • Transfer of Property Act

  • Hindu Law & Muslim Law

  • Indian Evidence Act (1872)

  • Code of Criminal Procedure

  • Indian Penal Code

  • Civil Procedure Code

  • Recent statutory updates: Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (2023 Acts)

The emphasis is on definitions, key provisions, exceptions, and application-oriented facts. The papers are moderate in difficulty focusing on recall more than analytical depth

🔍 Targeted Study Strategy

Phase 1: Foundation & Coverage

  • Dedicate 10–12 hrs/week, gradually increasing.

  • Start with core law subjects: IPC → CrPC → Evidence → CPC → Transfer of Property → Personal Laws.

  • For each subject, create concise notes, mind‑maps, and practice MCQs.

  • Allocate 1 hr/day on current affairs: national, Uttarakhand-focused, legal news.

Phase 2: Revision & Mock Practice

  • Increase to 15–18 hrs/week.

  • Rotate revision of law subjects; use flashcards for quick recall.

  • Start full-length mock tests every 2–3 weeks in Jan–Feb.

  • By March–April: shift to weekly mocks under timing (3‑hour sessions).

  • Analyze performance to identify weak areas and refine.

Phase 3: Final Consolidation

  • Peak study hours: up to 20 hrs/week in July; taper to 10–12 hrs in August.

  • Continue revision of all subjects and law acts.

  • Daily GK/hot‑topic revision, especially last 6–8 months of legal/current affairs.

  • Take 4–6 full mocks under real exam conditions; practice time management and accuracy.

  • In final week, focus on rest, review summaries/flashcards, and build confidence.

✅ Weekly Study Framework (Sample)

  • Mon–Fri:

    • 1–1.5 hrs Law subject (new topic or revision)

    • 30–45 min GK: news, current law updates

  • Sat:

    • Consolidation: revise new law topics or GK notes

    • Practice 30–50 MCQs

  • Sun:

    • Subject-wise revision (flashcards/mind‑maps)

    • Monthly or weekly mini mock (mixed law + GK)

As you progress into the final phase, replace mini mocks with full-length tests every weekend.

🔁 Quick Revision & Retention Tips

  • Use flowcharts for procedural laws (CrPC, CPC) to visualize steps.

  • Maintain ‘one-pager’ notes per law, capturing essentials.

  • For GK: have rolling files for Uttarakhand facts, important judgments, legislative trends.

  • Practice legal GK MCQs separately from law subject questions.

🏆 Toppers’ Strategic Insights

  • Begin mock tests 3–4 months before the exam and increase frequency close to date.

  • Maintain revision cycles—study, revise after 1 week, then after a month. Toppers emphasize spaced repetition.

  • Focus on bare act sections, particularly amendments like the 2023 Codes.

  • Keep GK study daily and incremental, not as last-minute cramming.

  • Speed and accuracy under timed conditions: simulate OMR sheet and strict timing.

✅ Summary: Where to Focus to Crack Prelims

  • Maximize accuracy in Law section: IPC, CrPC, Evidence, CPC, TPA, personal laws.

  • Deep GK coverage: national/international law, Uttarakhand updates, recent statutes, SC/HC verdicts.

  • Frequent mocks & test analysis to fine‑tune time management and eliminate weak areas.

  • Structured, phased revision with concise notes and law act summaries.

  • Spaced revision and consistent routine to avoid burnout.

By following this focused and structured strategy, you’ll build solid subject knowledge, sharpen recall speed, and be well-prepared to confidently clear the UKPSC CJ Prelims screening
