๐Ÿ”น Filing & Supply of Documents

  • Section 230: Police report and documents must be supplied to the accused within 14 days of appearance.

  • Section 231: In Sessions triable cases, copies of statements/documents to be given without delay, preferably within 14 days.


๐Ÿ”น Committal to Sessions Court

  • Section 232: Committal proceedings (when offence is triable exclusively by Court of Session) must be completed within 90 days from cognizance; extendable by another 90 days with reasons.


๐Ÿ”น Framing of Charge

  • Section 251: Court of Session to frame charge within 60 days from the first date of hearing.


๐Ÿ”น Judgment Delivery

  • Section 392: After conclusion of arguments, judgment must be pronounced within 30 days; may be extended to 45 days for reasons recorded.


๐Ÿ”น Forensic Examination

  • Section 176(3): For offences punishable with 7 years or more, forensic investigation mandatory – case file must include video-recorded crime scene visit.


๐Ÿ”น Medical Examination Reports

  • Section 184: Medical report of rape victim to be forwarded to investigating officer within 7 days by the medical practitioner.


๐Ÿ”น Victim Information

  • Section 193(4): Investigating officer must inform the victim about progress of investigation within 90 days from the date of FIR.


๐Ÿ”น Plea Bargaining

  • Section 290(3): Application for plea bargaining must be filed within 30 days from date of charge framing.

  • Section 292(3): Proceedings for mutual settlement in plea bargaining to be completed within 60 days from filing.


๐Ÿ”น Electronic Signature of Accused

  • Section 316(4): When accused appears through video conferencing, digital or electronic signature must be obtained within 72 hours of recording statement.
