1. Understanding the Structure of a Judgment

A judgment must follow a logical and judicial structure. Here is a standard format:

(A) Heading

  • In the Court of ______ (e.g., Civil Judge, Junior Division)

  • Case No.: _____

  • Title: A vs B

  • Date of Judgment

(B) Introduction / Nature of Suit

  • Briefly mention the type of case (civil/criminal), the nature of suit, and relief sought.

(C) Pleadings of the Parties

  • Plaintiff’s Version / Prosecution Case

  • Defendant’s Version / Defence

(D) Issues Framed (Civil) / Charges Framed (Criminal)

  • Clearly write down each issue/charge.

(E) Evidence Recorded

  • Summarise oral/written evidence, documents, and witness depositions.

(F) Findings on Each Issue/Charge

  • Analyze and answer each framed issue/charge one by one, supported by evidence and legal provisions.

(G) Reasoning & Law
