Section 106 - Abetment of Suicide

  • Subsection (1): If a person abets the commission of suicide by another person, they shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term extending up to ten years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

  • Subsection (2): If the suicide is committed by a child (below 18 years), an insane person, an intoxicated person, or a person who is incapable of understanding the consequences of their actions, the abettor shall be punished with life imprisonment, or imprisonment for a term up to ten years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

This provision broadly corresponds to Section 306 of the IPC, 1860, but with some modifications in the punishment structure.
